Gallery Artists: Susan Scott
These paintings assert themselves into the space of the room, unidentifiable objects
until you see what they are made of. Unlike art that addresses recycling, these paintings'
parts haven't had previous incarnations---the components are made purposely to be
reconfigured. The process of restructuring the relationships and re-finding visual integrity
allows autobiographical narrative to edge its way into the work, while it leaves the outcome
open to broad, subjective interpretations. Using formal abstraction as a guide, this work is made out of deep respect as well as
irreverence for the tradition of painting.
