These photographs are work in progress from a two-week trip with my husband to Scotland, to the Highlands and the Isles, last October. Although we do not usually go on travel vacations, I had been feeling the need to go to an unfamiliar land. I wanted to go somewhere where the land was wild, primordial, elemental, and Scotland seemed like a good choice, a rugged place with plenty of pubs.

The trip was magnificent. It was thrilling to go out every day and feel the elements so vividly, to drive and hike through barren lands where nonetheless people have lived for millennia.

These photographs are my attempt to allow this wild land to speak for itself.
