Artist Statement
R. Galvan is a Boston based conceptual artist. They have formal training as a silversmith and use that sensibility for making artist books, sculptures, drawings, photographs and performance. Their studio practice is an interdisciplinary engagement with visual research and cultural investigations that focus on the role administrative systems play in the making and understanding of the self. They have taught courses on the selfie and traditions of self-representation as well as on the emergence of algorithms as cultural indicators of tensions in the contemporary moment.
