Linda Cordner

Clementine, acrylic on canvas, 30x24 inches, 2023

Artist Statement

In my work, I explore the interplay of color, light, and depth through a process of layering and abstracted geometry. These elements reflect my fascination with nature and the inevitable aging that all things undergo. Rather than drawing from specific locations or photographs, my imagery arises from my response to places and times of day, allowing for a more personal interpretation of the world around me.

The layering technique I employ creates a rich, textured surface that evokes a sense of history and wear, suggesting the passage of time. As I build up the layers, each brushstroke becomes part of the composition, adding to the overall luminosity and complexity of the piece and contributing to a narrative that unfolds within the painting. The colors are intentionally distressed, producing a visual experience that resonates with the beauty of imperfection and transience.
