 Artist Statement

My abstract paintings describe sinuous forms that radiate light through vibrant color harmonies. Serpentine shapes suggest the female form and an organic sensuality. I'm interested in symmetry and its association with the iconic compositions found in sacred art. Symmetry balances the high energy of the color and the tumbling arabesque forms. The work departs from perfect symmetry as centralized forms uncoil and morph in space, and collage-like figures appear to tumble. The effect combines the earthy, sensual, and otherworldly.

I'm highly engaged in the physical process of painting and the unpredictability of fluid acrylic paint on canvas. The color palette runs saturated and bold—from the renaissance skies of ultramarine blue to the candy color pink of anime.

This exhibit examines the evolution of my color-based paintings in the context of Covid. My work was created during a time of isolation and anxiety for most of us. In the cocoon of my studio, I felt restored and optimistic. Stay on It is the mantra I adopted in the early days of Covid, referring to the perseverance, mindfulness and passion required to see me through.
